Ian trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. His UK theatre roles include Laurie in Little Women at the Bloomsbury Theatre, London, and the Beast in Beauty and the Beast at the Civic Theatre, Rotherham.
He reached the semi-finals of the BBC Radio 2 Voice of Musical Theatre in 2002 and subsequently travelled throughout America and Europe as a lead singer with Riverdance. In 2007 he co-founded Bare Space Theatre Company in his home town of Limerick and won a Best Actor award at the Midwest Arts Awards for his portrayal of Anthony in the company’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd.
Ian currently presents Classical Kids, a classical music programme for younger listeners, on RTÉ lyric fm and RTÉjr Radio.
