How Expressive Arts uses and protects information about families, children and young people aged 4 to 17.
We collect only what we need to answer enquiries, run classes safely and keep in touch with families.

Expressive Arts Theatre School is a performing arts school in Limerick, Ireland. For the personal information described in this notice, Expressive Arts is the data controller.

This notice is for parents, guardians, children and young people who visit the website, make an enquiry, enrol in a class, attend Expressive Arts activities or appear in approved photographs or recordings.
In Ireland, anyone under 18 is a child for data protection purposes. Children have their own privacy rights. Adults may support them in exercising those rights, but a child’s information remains the child’s personal information.
Enquiry details: a parent or guardian’s name, email address and optional telephone number, together with the child’s age, class of interest and the message submitted.
Class and enrolment details: contact details, attendance, emergency information and other information reasonably needed to provide classes safely. We do not ask for sensitive or detailed safeguarding information through the public enquiry form.
Photographs, audio and video: images or recordings from classes, rehearsals and performances, used only where there is an appropriate basis and any required parent or guardian permission.
Website information: technical information such as device, browser, approximate location derived from an IP address, pages visited and cookie choices. Optional analytics information is collected only after consent.
Communications and records: emails, form submissions, consent records and notes needed to respond, administer classes or meet safeguarding and legal responsibilities.
To answer enquiries and take steps requested before enrolment.
To provide classes and manage the relationship with families where this is necessary for a contract.
To meet legal, accounting, health and safety, child protection and safeguarding duties.
To operate and improve the school and website where there is a legitimate interest that does not override a child’s rights or best interests.
With consent for optional activities such as non-essential cookies, selected marketing communications, or publicity photographs and recordings. Consent can be withdrawn at any time, without affecting earlier lawful use.
Expressive Arts serves children and young people aged 4 to 17, so privacy and safeguarding are built into how information is handled.
Website enquiry forms are intended for a parent or guardian. If you are under 16, please ask a parent or guardian to contact us for you. Do not send medical, safeguarding or other sensitive details through the general enquiry form.
Where an online service is offered directly to a child under 16 and consent is the legal basis, Irish law requires consent from a parent or guardian. We will use clear, age-appropriate language when explaining privacy to a child and consider the child’s best interests in every decision.
General enquiries that do not lead to enrolment are normally kept for no longer than 12 months after the last meaningful contact.
Class, attendance, consent and safeguarding records are kept only for as long as needed for the relationship and any applicable legal, insurance or child protection requirement. Financial records may be kept for six years in line with Irish tax and accounting obligations.
Photographs and recordings used with consent are reviewed periodically and removed from future use when consent is withdrawn, unless another lawful reason requires limited retention. Backups and security logs are deleted or overwritten on a controlled schedule.
We use access controls, secure hosting, software updates, backups and limited staff access to reduce the risk of loss, misuse or unauthorised disclosure. No online system is completely risk-free, but we review the measures appropriate to the information we hold, particularly where it concerns children.
Depending on the circumstances, you may ask for access to personal information, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or object to certain uses. You may withdraw consent at any time.
Children may exercise their own rights when they have the capacity to do so and it is in their best interests. A parent or guardian may also help a child make a request. We may need to confirm identity and the relationship to the child before responding.
You may complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission at dataprotection.ie. We would welcome the opportunity to address your concern first.
